Phillips Organic Farm began in 2007 after Donna Phillips’ retirement as a school administrator. The farm was previously rented to several farmers for 35 years. Donna’s husband’s death due to Agent Orange exposure led her to extensive research concerning the effects of pesticide exposure. As her “gardens” grew, she wanted to share her organic food beyond her extended family and friends. In 2007 she attended the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA-NY)-sponsored Organic Farm Certification workshop. As the business grew Donna started by selling at one farm market and now she sells at three markets. Currently she has NOFA-NY organic certification and grows 42 varieties of veggies. She enjoys meeting customers and discussing food preparation and recipes. Her undergraduate degree was in Foods and Nutrition and she feels like she is returning to her “roots”. Donna is the mother of two daughters and aunt to 63 nieces and nephews who love coming to Aunt Donna’s farm.
